Venga

Hit up that young RedWing again. Alex redpointed Mississippi Burning, Wes redpointed Pidgeon Paranoia, and I redpointed Jump Start. Took long enough. Next week is Taylor's Falls. Maybe we'll get some work done on boulder problems. But probably not.

First Outing to Redwing

Well we made it down to Redwing MN last weekend. It was so nice to finally feel real rock after so much gym climbing. I led climbed for the very first time. Alex redpointed an 11c. Wes redpointed a 10b and I a 10a. Time to get practicing!

Life in the City

I know that most people who are dedicated climbers find places to live that suit their hobby, i.e. Boulder, Colorado, or Huecos, New Mexico. For those who do not live in an area with real rock available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, we must find ways to make do. I call this "Urban Climbing".

To be an "urban climber", one has to make the best out of the situation they have. For example, my friends and I obviously can't multipitch in Minneapolis, MN, so...we multipitch trees.

We make do with what we can. It's fun! Buildering is quite common when we're not at our local gym. We climb the false rocks at the zoo until we get yelled at. Until we move out on our own, urban climbing will keep us interested in the sport. Once we can start climbing tufas in Greece, I'm guessing we'll start to leave the trees alone.

Until next time.
